Tags in the post are click-able links to other blogs containing the same tagged subject matter.
If your comments do not show up right away you may be caught in moderation (all first time commenters and questionable words) or spam filter because you added hyperlinks. Be patient as sometimes we are actually away from the computer and can’t get them approved right away.

Hey Jim, I’ve got a question… which Personal Training certification did you choose to go with and why? I feel like I’m getting nudged in that direction and am just starting to gather information as I continue to pray.

Hi Jen – I chose ISSA as it was nicely geared towards my goals to support natural bodybuilding. I’d recommend it unless you are wanting to be in a health club setting – there they may want you to have a more ‘fitness’ oriented certification like ACE.
By: Jim Goodman on October 11, 2008

ACE sounds pretty basic. I think I’d like to go beyond that. I’ve read a couple things like ISSA is too expensive for what you get back. Would you say that is true? Did you look into NSCA and ACSM?
By: Jenifer on October 16, 2008
at 5:46 pm
Hi Jen – I don’t agree ACE is one of the more widely accepted certs among health clubs – definitely ACSM is the cream of the crop but the last time I looked it required a bachelors degree.
ISSA is only expensive upfront, but when all is said and done it is about the same as most certification programs when you include the training material + exam cost. ISSA includes the exam cost and you can take it online from home which I liked.
On the question of what you get back – that is subjective to goals and needs and ISSA is a little light on that although I did get a call from the PT company that Gold’s hired to submit a resume to run Lincoln. They called me because I was on the ISSA CFT list for Lincoln, NE.

All this info. is helpful, thank you! I’d like to make a decision soon and get started studying for it. I think somethings going to happen with Fit 4 Life very soon. Looks like we might be moving to the Chicago area, Brandy first, kids and I at the end of the school year. Not sure what’s gonna happen here, big changes coming, that’s all I know.
